KennethMorris.jpg

KENNETH B. MORRIS JR.

Co-Founder & President
Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives (FDFI)

Kenneth B. Morris, Jr. is descended from two of the most important names in American history: he is the great-great-great grandson of Frederick Douglass and the great-great grandson of Booker T. Washington.

Ken is now the President of the Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives (FDFI), a public charity that endeavors to create a modern Abolitionist Movement in schools all over the country through the vehicle of Service-Learning curricula called History, Human Rights and the Power of One.  FDFI operates on the belief that young people play critical roles on both sides of the Contemporary Slavery spectrum: at one end, they are the most vulnerable to becoming its victims and, at the other, the most qualified to lead its demise.

Prior to becoming a Social Entrepreneur, Ken and his business partner managed a successful marketing and entertainment firm. C&A Marketing became a leader in the field of corporate meetings and incentive travel developing customized marketing programs for major cruise lines and resort hotels. Some of the skills learned during his corporate career have also served Ken well in Civil Society.

Ken believes he has an obligation to use the platform his ancestors have built, through struggle and through sacrifice, to stand up and fight to end the scourge of modern-day slavery. In addition to his duties at FDFI, he sits on the Honorary Advisory Committee for the Frederick Douglass Ireland Project and he is an Ambassador for the non-profit organization, Human Rights First.  He has contributed his talents to the board of directors for Kaleidoscope Arts Factory, a non-profit performing arts organization for children, the Booker T. Washington Family Committee, and the Dean’s Advisory Committee at the University of La Verne.

DameonWroe.jpg

Dameon Wroe

Mentor/Speaker/Life-Coach

Dameon Wroe was born and partially raised in Sacramento, California by both of his biological parents, along with his older sister.  With the exception of his father, Dameon and the majority of his immediate family members were raised in the church.  Although both of his parents were active in his life during the early years, it wasn’t long before his life took a series of unexpected turns.  From his teenage years into his adult life, Dameon’s father battled with drug addiction.  It wasn’t long before his father’s drug addiction ultimately sparked a bitter divorce between his parents.  In the early 1980’s, Dameon’s single mother moved he and his sister to Southern California to pursue a better quality of life.  For most of his youth, Dameon grew up as an angry and rebellious child, primarily angered that his father was not consistently active in his life.  This rebellion ultimately prompted several adverse encounters with the law, one of which landed him in juvenile hall at the age of 17.  Having his freedom taken away at such an early age was a wake-up call for Dameon, and it was only a short time later that his life appeared to be headed in a more positive and rewarding direction.

Finally graduating from high school in 1990, Dameon continued his education at a local community college to pursue a degree in Administration of Justice, in an effort to pursue a career in law enforcement.  While attending community college, Dameon was informed by a customer at his job that an R&B singing group was holding auditions for a fourth member.  Several weeks after the audition, Dameon was accepted into the group as the fourth member.  Winning numerous talent shows at multiple venues in the Southern California area, it wasn’t long before Dameon and his R&B singing group got the opportunity of a lifetime.  In 1992, after performing on the Sunset Strip at The Roxy, the singing group was discovered by legendary recording artists The Whispers and signed their first ever recording contract in that same year.

While recording their first album for Capitol Records, Dameon and his group members were also involved in acting.  Dameon has landed several featured roles as a principal actor and also appeared in a Dr. Pepper commercial.  He has worked with some of Hollywood’s A-List entertainers such as: singer/songwriter Brian McKnight, rap group Naughty By Nature, R&B singer Marques Houston, actress Jennifer Lewis, comedian and film producer Robert Townsend, The Hudlin Brothers, directors of the 1992 blockbuster film “Boomerang,” actors Don Cheadle, and John Witherspoon, to name a few.  As suggested by many who had either read his poetry or watched him perform, Dameon took his passion for writing to the next level and wrote his first, self-published book of poetry entitled True Inspirations – A Poetry Collection, Vol. I and ultimately persuaded major book stores to carry his book.  Dameon is currently promoting his new book, “Modern Day Mentor,” which was recently published in May of 2019.

Currently continuing his Barnes & Noble Book Signing Tour, Dameon is aggressively and passionately seeking to get more acquainted with his audience by expanding his book signing events all across the U.S. and re-igniting his love for public speaking.  Wise beyond his years, this author is, without a doubt, gaining more and more popularity as a result of his most recent book consistently making its way into homes around the country.  With his diverse background in songwriting, publishing, entertainment and community relations, the public is about to see this author’s name more and more frequently!  Now a single father enjoying sole custody of two amazing children, Dameon Wroe is dedicated to showing his children that hard work pays off, by facing and breaking through every problem or challenge that arises as the journey of life continues.  While focusing on his goals each day, Dameon reminds himself of the words of motivational speaker and fellow author Les Brown, who suggests, “You have to be willing to do the things today that others won’t do, in order to have the things tomorrow that others won’t have.”
